Mr. Syquia heads Institutional Banking and his responsibilities include managing the Corporate and Commercial Banking Relationship Management, Corporate and Commercial Credit Products, Transaction Services (Cash Management and Trade), Remittance and Fund Transfer, and Investment Banking and Equity Brokerage. He is also a Director of BPI’s joint venture company, Global Payments Asia-Pacific Philippines Incorporated.

Career

Mr. Syquia's storied past in the financial services industry is comprised of growth spread across over 30 years.

Honed by BPI's Officer Training Program back in 1990, Mr. Syquia formed part of a two-man team in 1991 and successfully established the Corporate Banking Division desk in Cebu. Thus started his journey in helping companies grow.

The year 1994 saw him explore the industry with his move to Baring Brothers & Co., part of the ING Group. In his 17 years with ING, he took on various roles in relationship management, corporate finance origination, and investment banking execution. His last role in ING Bank was at the Head of Corporate Finance at ING Bank in Manila. He then moved to a regional role as Head of Strategy and Business Development at ING Asia Pacific Ltd., the regional hub of ING Group's life insurance and asset management practice.

From ING, he served as Country Head of Corporate Clients for Standard Chartered Bank for the Philippines from late 2011, before joining BPI Capital Corporation in June 2016. From then on until 2018, he was the President of BPI Capital Corporation and was Co-Head for Investment Banking for the Bank.

Relevant skills and experience

With extensive experience in corporate finance with leading banks, Mr. Syquia was principally responsible for wholesale banking strategy of Standard Chartered in the Philippines. He brings with him expertise in fostering growth for clients, investors, and BPI as a whole.

Education

Mr. Syquia carries an MBA Degree (Honors) with a concentration in Finance and International Business from Fordham University, NY as well as an AB degree in Management Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University.
