As it marks 175 years of service, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is making it easier than ever for Filipinos to open a bank account.

The launch of the National ID eVerify integration was marked by the signing of a Subscription Contract between BPI and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), formalizing BPI's adoption of the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS) to streamline digital account opening while supporting the country's digital transformation and financial inclusion agenda.

"At BPI, we believe that financial inclusion begins with access. And access should be simple, seamless, and built on trust. That is why we are proud to partner with the PSA to integrate PhilSys into the account-opening journey through the BPI app," said TG Limcaoco, President and CEO of BPI.

By integrating the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS) into the BPI app’s digital account opening process, anyone with a National ID (PhilID) record no longer needs to upload a photo of their physical ID when opening a new account through the app.

Users can verify their identity by taking a selfie, which is securely authenticated against the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), making the process shorter, more seamless, and more convenient.

Through the updated process, new BPI clients can now open a #SaveUp account in just a few easy steps:

We want banking to be simpler and more accessible for every Filipino,” said Fitzgerald Chee, Head of Consumer Platforms at BPI. “With NIDAS integration in the BPI app, clients can now open an account more conveniently, helping them take the first step toward building their financial future.”

This initiative aims to build on BPI's momentum. The Bank recorded a 38% year-on-year growth in digital account openings via the BPI app in 2025, as more Filipinos shifted to mobile-first banking.

The integration with National ID eVerify allows BPI to make financial services more accessible, especially for individuals who may have limited documentation. By linking accounts to a legitimate and uniquely verified individual through a government-backed ID system, the enhanced verification process also helps reduce the risk of opening fake accounts. This strengthens protection against identity misuse while providing greater security and trust for both clients and the Bank.

This initiative also supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) strategic objective of promoting inclusive digital finance under the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022-2028. Through digital innovations such as National ID eVerify, BPI continues to help expand access to formal financial services without the need to visit a physical branch.

BPI reminds the public that BPI will not contact clients to verify their National ID, request one-time passwords (OTPs), passwords, account details, or other personal information in relation to this feature. Clients are encouraged to remain vigilant against phishing attempts, scam messages, and fraudulent calls that may falsely claim to be connected to National ID eVerify or account verification activities.

As part of its ongoing commitment to cybersecurity and client protection, BPI encourages customers to transact only through official BPI channels and immediately report suspicious messages, websites, or activities to the Bank’s official customer support platforms.
