The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), through its social development arm, BPI Foundation (BPIF), has partnered with the Department of Science and Technology – Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) to distribute STARBOOKS-enabled computer units, smart TVs, and tablets to 40 public schools across the country.

(L-R): DOST-STII’s Arlene Centeno, Chief, Finance & Administrative Division; Rodolfo de Guzman, Chief, Communication Resources & Production Division; and Alan Taule, Chief, Information Resources & Analysis Division; with BPIF’s Carmina Marquez, Executive Director; Joy Reniva, Associate Director; and Melanie Magbuhos, Program Manager for Enterprise Development Livelihood & Special Projects.

The Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) is a groundbreaking project designed to bring financial education and scientific learning to public schools. Through this program, students will gain access to essential knowledge on budgeting, saving, and investing, equipping them with the skills to take charge of their financial future while also deepening their understanding of science and technology.

The effort aligns with BPIF’s broader mission to nurture the next generation of financially literate and informed citizens, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation’s progress.

STARBOOKS-enabled learning hubs will equip students with essential financial literacy and scientific knowledge, helping them make informed decisions and inspiring a passion for learning.

As part of this collaboration, BPIF and DOST will distribute 37 STARBOOKS-enabled computer units, 3 smart TVs, and 9 tablet PCs to participating schools. These devices will provide students with access to FinEd Unboxed Journals, a financial literacy resource designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of money management, alongside a vast collection of scientific materials available through STARBOOKS.

In 2024, BPIF and DOST distributed 30 STARBOOKS-enabled units across 21 provinces/cities, benefiting more than 17,000 students and teachers nationwide.

“Through this partnership, we are not just providing technology—we are empowering students with knowledge that can transform their future,” said Carmina Marquez, BPI Foundation Executive Director.

“By making financial education more accessible, we are equipping young minds with the skills they need to make informed financial choices and become active contributors to their communities. This initiative reflects our commitment to ‘Kasama Lahat sa Pag-Unlad’—ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey towards progress,” Marquez added.

This initiative reinforces BPIF’s dedication to enhancing education through strategic partnerships and impactful programs. By leveraging technology to expand access to financial literacy and scientific knowledge, BPIF and DOST are ensuring that students—regardless their location—have the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
