To enable a faster and more affordable international money transfer service in its mobile app, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has partnered with Visa, a global leader in digital payments.
(L-R): BPI’s Joel De Vera, Head of Strategy, Products and Support for Institutional Banking, and Louie Cruz, Head of Institutional Banking, with Visa’s Arturo Planel, Group Country Manager, and Jeffrey Navarro, Philippines Country Manager.
In Q1 2027, BPI will introduce outbound cross-border money transfers through the BPI app, using Visa Direct. Once available, the service will allow clients to send outbound cross-border transfers worldwide with improved speed, convenience, and transparency.
“Today’s clients expect financial services to move at the speed of their lives. As more Filipinos engage globally—whether for work, education, travel, or business—the need for secure, real-time, and affordable cross-border payments has become increasingly important,” said Joel De Vera, Head of Strategy, Products, and Support for Institutional Banking at BPI.
The upcoming new feature will benefit over 4 million active users of the BPI app. Through the partnership, BPI clients will soon be able to send funds to select destinations within seconds, including Singapore and the United Kingdom, while transfers to countries such as the United States, Canada, and Australia may be completed within the same or next business day. Transaction fees can be as low as USD 5, helping make international money transfers more affordable and accessible for Filipinos.
“At BPI, we continuously invest in digital solutions that make everyday financial transactions simpler and more convenient for our clients. Through our partnership with Visa, we are enabling clients in the Philippines to send money abroad with greater ease and confidence directly from the BPI app,” De Vera added.
In 2025, the BPI app recorded a 28% year-on-year increase in transaction count. Meanwhile, BPI’s cross-border and domestic transaction volumes surged by 71% year on year, while the average daily balance of Overseas Filipinos and beneficiary account holders grew by 22%.
The initiative also reflects BPI’s broader commitment to helping Filipinos stay financially connected wherever they are in the world—whether supporting loved ones overseas, paying for education and medical expenses abroad, or managing international business transactions.
Through strategic collaborations and digital innovation, BPI continues to help shape a more connected and financially empowered future for Filipinos worldwide.
