The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is expanding access to financial education through its Barangay PeraWise Caravan, a six-leg community outreach program designed to help residents build essential money management skills and improve their financial well-being.
BPI brings financial education closer to communities in Caloocan City, through the Barangay PeraWise Caravan.
Following two successful legs, including the launch at Barangay 176-F, the caravan will continue its run in additional communities across Caloocan City through 2026.
Designed to make financial education more practical and relevant to everyday Filipino households, the caravan equips residents with the knowledge and confidence to manage their money, build saving habits, protect themselves from scams, and take their first step toward a Mas Magandang Bukas.
Held in partnership with BPI On The Move and the Caloocan City local government, the first leg attracted nearly 300 participants during an afternoon of interactive learning activities on budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, fraud awareness, and financial preparedness. Through game-based challenges, booth activities, and facilitated discussions with local entrepreneurs and SMEs, attendees learned simple money habits they can apply at home and in their daily transactions.
“Financial education is most effective when people can immediately connect it to their daily lives like how they budget, save, borrow responsibly, and protect themselves from fraud,” said Ginbee Go, Head of Consumer Banking at BPI. “Through the Barangay PeraWise Caravan, we want to help more Filipinos build simple but lasting money habits that can support a more secure future for themselves and their families.”

Participants also visited partner booths that offered guidance on savings, digital banking, insurance, microfinance, and other financial solutions. These were supported by BPI Caloocan branches, BanKo, BPI AIA, BPI MS, and VYBE by BPI. Residents were also introduced to BPI Agency Banking’s partner store channels, providing convenient access to select banking services such as deposits and withdrawals closer to their communities.
As part of the caravan's financial inclusion efforts, residents were given the opportunity to open BPI accounts and learn more about formal banking services that can support saving, budgeting, and everyday transactions. Participants were also encouraged to join the 30-Day Ipon Challenge, a simple savings activity designed to help residents turn small but consistent actions into lasting financial habits.
Marilou Tadle Misa, a sari-sari store and computer shop owner, shared that her relationship with BPI began after she deposited her funds with the bank. Later, she was offered and approved for a credit card, which opened opportunities for her to access financing. She eventually took out a loan to purchase her first computer unit, marking the start of her computer shop business. Using the income generated from the venture, she was able to make regular payments on her loan and gradually grow her business.
Following its successful first leg, the Barangay PeraWise Caravan will continue to reach more communities across Caloocan City in the coming months, bringing practical financial education closer to more Filipinos throughout the remainder of 2026.
The Barangay PeraWise Caravan is part of BPI’s broader commitment to promote financial wellness and inclusion by bringing practical, relevant, and community-based learning experiences closer to Filipinos. Through initiatives like this, BPI continues to help more people take charge of their financial future — one informed choice, one saving habit, and one step toward a Mas Magandang Bukas at a time.
